The Works of Emma Dorothy Eliza Nevitte {E.D.E.N.} Southworth (1819–1899)

This is a collection of the works of writer Emma Dorothy Eliza Nevitte Southworth (1819–1899). {E.D.E.N. Southworth} It has various editions of her novels, and short stories. She was born on December 26, 1819, and died on June 30, 1899.When uploaded, their titles have been arranged in a way as to have the words "The", and "A", moved to the end of the titles, as some publishers could remove these, or add them depending on when and where the books were published. After the title the copyright year is added to the title, and then the Publishers name, without the words "Publisher" or "Company" if those are part of the publisher's name. Lastly there is an ID, or call number, added by various online digital collections, such as "Google" for "Google Books", or library's  url and then it's identification number. For serialized versions of her works, they are uploaded title first, and then newspaper/magazine name, and date of publication. such as "NationalEra,Version,From1847,August 19th, and 26th". Many of Emma's stories and serializations of her novels were published in short columns. The story might start on a 10th of one column, go two full columns, and end on a half column. But for this collection each column is clipped and pasted below the previous, this makes for very long and thin PDF files, but allows reading software to read the text in order, without the common error of reading words from one column, then jumping to the next column, and so forth. For the "National Era" example, the title, date, and page number of the newspaper is clipped and places at the top of the story with {} if the pages aren't actually numbered. Then the columns of story text, then the next clipped title, date, and page number of the next issue that is in that PDF. For appearances like "The New York Ledger", the title of the newspaper, and any accompanying image depicting the story is clip and pasted first, with the text columns following. For additional information on her works, and as a good reference point, I suggest reading these two sources on her works."Dictionary Of Literary Biography; Volume 239: American Women Prose Writers, 1820-1870" from 2001. However as mentioned in 'Chronological Bibliography', this list has many books repeated, but it does list many title changes, and is more of a quick glance summary, things listed as 'Unpublished', are shown in the following list, to have already been printed in book form.A Chronological Bibliography of E. D. E. N. Southworth's Works, Privileging Periodical Publication, by Melissa J. Homestead, and Vicki L. Martin, from 2012.* https://digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1132&context=englishfacpubsHere is also a listing of her 84 published works, based on the 1904 Street and Smith listing, with new numbers representing only her work, the older Street and Smith numbers in {} before the title. In this list, after the title, the list shows the number of different copies of that book that are in this collection, if therte are more than one, and the alternate names it may be found under in the 'files' section. Sometimes her books are updated, while other versions have more or less chapters, depending on who published the books. {Numbers {136-141, are the splitting of three books into 2 books each. 1. "Only a Girl’s Heart", "Gertrude’s Sacrifice"; 2. "The Rejected Bride", "A Husband’s Devotion"; 3. Gertrude Haddon", "Reunited".} {Numbers 164, 165, and 166, were re-releases of 17 (now in two volumes) and 18 with titles changed, they are book editions of the serialized story, "The Widows of Widowville".}The book "Coral Lady; Or The Bronzed Beauty of Paris" mentions on the last page that the book is not written by E.D.E.N. Southworth, but on the title page it is credited as "by Mrs. Southworth", and is the result of "Interviews with this singular woman". And it is not clear whom the book was actually written by, {perhaps a relative} but the publisher seems to indicate that it is based on interviews with her, as a sort of biography of a part of E.D.E.N. Southworth's life, when she was in Paris. But then again it could be completely fictional. Many libraries list it as her work. And is included in this collection for that reason."The Mystery of the Dark Hollow" is a 33 chapter novel, credited as "Edited by E.D.E.N. Southworth". And is also not numbered in the list below. In "A Chronological Bibliography of E. D. E. N. Southworth's Works" by Melissa J. Homestead, and Vicki L. Martin it is suggest that the book was probably written by her sister "Frances Henshaw Baden", although in the book, the book's author is uncredited. {4 versions of book are in this collection.}{The stories written by Emma's sister "Frances Henshaw Baden" are sometimes added to these books, but for the purposes of this list, these story titles are not listed here.}For the works of Frances Henshaw Baden, see the following collection."The Works of Frances Henshaw Baden (1835-1911)"* https://archive.org/details/theworksoffranceshenshawbaden1835-191101.
