Leo Strauss - Restatement on Xenophon's Heiro

Leo Strauss - Restatement on Xenophon's Heiro

This is the famous "Restatement" that discusses most directly the meaning of the philosophic life as opposed to all other human forms of association and activity. It was written as a "reply" to the friendly criticisms of Alexander Kojeve, who was the thinker responsible for the popular fusion of Hegel, Nietzsche, & Heidegger, popularized by Sartre's "Marxism". Included in this copy is the original final paragraph, excluded from the American edition, addressing the obscurantism and demagoguery implied in the thought of Martin Heidegger.
