Century Magazine 1894 Vol. 26
The Century Magazine began as Scribner’s Monthly in 1870, and became Century Magazine in 1881. It brought readers a wide range of
general-interest articles on famous people (contemporary and historic),
history, archaeology, science, the latest discoveries, world travel and
cultures, and discussions of current political issues and controversies. The
Century Magazine serialized numerous key works of nonfiction, including Battles and Leaders of the Civil War and
George Kennan’s acclaimed series on the prison camps of Siberia. It also published short fiction and
serialized novels by some of the top names in literature, including Mark Twain,
Frank Stockton, and many others. Bound volumes run from November to April and
May to October. Volumes retain both the
old Scribner’s and new Century numbering system, so the first
volume is both “1” of the new series and “22” of the old.
